Chris ‘Jagger’ Jäger and Summerbreeze Open Air visits MGM 2025

Seven bookers from just as many international festivals have announced their arrival at MONO Goes Metal Fest 2025. They have been invited to form a panel where they will let the audience in on festival details, a bit about themselves as bookers and what they are looking for when booking artists.

First booker to be presented at this years MONO Goes Metal Fest and panel participant at MGM Festival Meet Up at Headquarters is:

Chris ‘Jagger’ Jäger, Head of booking – SUMMER BREEZE Open Air, Bavaria, Germany.

Can you tell us a bit about your festival? And your focus and musical profile?

The Summer Breeze Open Air is an annual metal festival that has been held in Dinkelsbühl, Bavaria, since 1997. With around 45,000 visitors, it is the largest independent metal festival in Europe and the second largest metal festival in Germany.

The focus of the band selection is on a mix of death metal, black metal, medieval metal, hardcore, slam, metalcore, and thrash metal. However, bands from other metal genres such as power metal, hard rock, and folk are also regularly represented.

With two large and two small stages, it’s not just the big names that get a chance to perform; we also place great importance on the underground scene, as these bands represent the future.

What is your background and how long have you been working with this festival?

I have been working in the scene for more than two decades. From publishing a death metal fanzine during the mid-Nineties to joining a monthly metal magazine in ’98 and becoming the editor in chief later on, I made my first steps in the live music business in 1998. During that year the magazine realized its second indoor festival that later became a well-known Open Air in South Germany.

In 2012 I joined SUMMER BREEZE Open Air. As head of booking, project manager and networking specialist I like to push and advance the festival as well as travel and meet people all over the globe.

How do you see the Danish metalscene in 2025?

The Danish metal scene has really blossomed in recent years. More and more outstanding metal bands, especially young ones, are seeing the light of day. The musical quality is very high, and during my last showcase visits to Denmark, I was very impressed by what I saw and heard.

I think this positive development is not only due to the mostly healthy and supportive relationship between the bands, but also to the excellent and hard work of the institutions. The course has been set, now it’s just a matter of breaking through internationally, which is unfortunately still lacking in order to attract attention abroad and grow steadily.

I’m really looking forward to the upcoming edition of Mono Goes Metal and discovering which awesome bands I’ll find in this edition.
